Rising from the Ashes

Rising from the Ashes: Just 48 hours after the fire had devastated this village, the debris had been cleared, tarpaulins had sprung up and there were all the signs of a new beginning. Fresh water was in place, food donated and cooking pots delivered.  Amidst the rain and mud, Chanmony Pich arrived to distribute packages that included noodles, floors coverings, sleeping mats and money for each family.  Chanmony Pich has an energy and compassion that is rare. There were no press or TV crews to record her kindness. She called me close to midnight last night, expressing her concerns and asking how she could help. Next day she was at the site, spending time with each family and listening to their specific hardship.  Just before leaving, Chanmony Pich quietly handed me an envelope, a contribution from her and husband Hun Manet, that contained $5,000.  The reaction in the past day has been so much more than I expected. People here and overseas have stepped up to h
